Right now, you can find sales for 500 Gb drives for under $200. My guess is that by Christmas 2007, you’ll be able to find terabyte drives for under $200. Come on Hitachi, Western Digital, and Seagate, let’s see what your labs can pump out in 18 months.

Subway Rider Sliced in Power Saw Attack – New York Times
NEW YORK (AP) — A man grabbed two cordless power saws off a subway station workbench and went on a rampage Thursday, swinging the saws at riders and slicing open a man’s chest before running away, police said.
Someone should check if Bruce Campbell was in town during the attack.

The key paragraph:
“Had I known then what I know now, I would not have undertaken the work,” he said, when the details came out in a Senate Indian Affairs Committee report. Mr. Reed insists he didn’t know it was gambling money, which, given the e-mail traffic between him and Mr. Abramoff, is a thin twig on which to hang a defense. Either Mr. Reed understands English or he does not. Mr. Abramoff tells him that he’ll get a check as soon as the Coushattas send in the money. The Coushattas were in the casino business. You don’t come up with $5.3 million from selling beaded coin purses.
May God smite thee and reveal the truth within thine mind and soul, Ralph Reed!
I Desperately Need Bone Marrow | The Onion
I Desperately Need Bone Marrow | The Onion
My love of bone marrow started when I worked as a lab technician in the leukemia ward at the local hospital. I was enjoying a lunch of clam chowder and crackers when I pulled a fresh sourdough baguette out of my satchel. I soon realized I hadn’t brought any butter. Woe to the man who’s forced to eat bread dry and plain! I searched frantically for some sort of spread—jelly, deviled ham, Nutella, anything! Crazed with hunger, I reached into the lab refrigeration storage unit and grabbed a random vial.
I rarely laugh when I read something funny. The paragraph above did it for me.
Robbie McEwen helping out in the mountains
Robbie McEwen helping out in the mountains
CN: This will have some implications for the team with Cadel’s position and he must now be a big contender for the GC?RM: He was always going to be a contender anyway but under these circumstances simply on the basis of mathematics from last year we are going to move up to third spot straight away. You’ll probably see me later on, riding on the front of the bunch in the mountains defending Cadel’s lead. For about 100 metres anyway.
I love how Robbie McEwen mixes it up in the sprints. It turns out he also has a wry sense of humor.
Automatic Enkoder
Posting your email address on a website is a sure-fire way to get an Inbox full of unsolicited email advertisements. The Enkoder protects email addresses by converting them into encrypted JavaScript code, hiding them from email-harvesting robots while revealing them to real people.
I used Enkoder to convert all the html email links on the company website today. Hopefully, this will prevent new spambots from harvesting email addresses and decrease the level of spam.
Three for one
This trap was catching large rats that were digging into the compost bin. It looks like it took three smaller mice to trip the same trap. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to share, since if only one mouse had eaten at a time, it probably wouldn’t have had enough pressure to trip the trap. If you look toward the right, you can see where I’ve put wire mesh under the compost bin so rodents won’t be digging into it from the bottom in the future.

Chew on This
Press Release for Chew on This published by Houghton Mifflin Company
• A single fast-food hamburger may contain meat from hundreds, even thousands, of different cattle.
• Each can of soda contains more than ten teaspoons of sugar.
• A single animal infected with E. Coli 0157:H7 can contaminate thirty-two thousand pounds of ground beef.
• Chickens in slaughterhouses are sometimes killed by being thrown against walls or stomped on.
• Leftover waste from a cattle slaughterhouse is sometimes added to chicken feed.
• Leftover waste from a chicken slaughterhouse is sometimes added to chicken feed, turning the doomed birds into cannibals.
After reading that first line, I think I’m going to really cut down on my intake of hamburgers. I’ve known about mad cow disease and e.coli, but the odds of picking up a deadly pathogen are greatly increased when a single burger you’re eating may be made up of parts from hundreds to thousands of cows. In the old days, your butcher would make the hamburger locally, and it would often come from one cut of meat. Now you have no idea where that hamburger is coming from when you eat from a fast food location.

Today, Beyond TV 4.3 delivers more TV to my HTPC. Beyond TV now supports ShowSqueeze for HDTV recordings! I can take massive ATSC transport streams and ShowSqueeze them down to a very manageable DivX or Windows Media format files. Beyond TV 4.3 also strips out the extra sub-channel information so recordings are already up to 50% smaller.
This is great news. With HDTV recordings taking up 9 GB an hour, even large hard drives fill up rapidly.
