Be careful what you choose as an allegory. Especially if it’s an amazing show with twists that come right after another.

Note: A software emulator is required for each original Xbox game you play on your Xbox 360™ console.

It’s great that a lot of Xbox games are playable on the Xbox 360. Playing Xbox 360 games on my 50″ HD TV has been wondrous. I can’t wait to play Lego Star Wars II in co-op mode with my kids.

Lasik plus 20 days

My vision has been working well, and the only issues I have right now are some days my eyes are fine, but some days they’re dry. Overall though, I love the freedom of not having to deal with contacts or glasses. I do notice that after I wake up in the morning that it takes longer for my eyes to adjust and focus compared to before the surgery, but before the surgery, my eyes couldn’t see far at all even if they were able to focus faster. I wonder why eyes do feel so dry after a Lasik operation.

Lasik plus 9 days

On my checkup today on October 16th, I was told that I have 20/20 with each eye and 20/15 when I look with both eyes. The dryness issue really hasn’t been a problem the past few days since I only have to apply lubricant eye drops during the end of the day. On Saturday, October 14th, my right eye was blurry in the morning, but it cleared up in the afternoon. My vision seems to be getting sharper every day. It’s strange in that I feel that I’ve always had perfect vision in my eyes. I still catch myself at the end of the day when my eyes feel dry and tired thinking I have to take out my contacts.

With YouTube, Grad Student Hits Jackpot Again – New York Times

With YouTube, Grad Student Hits Jackpot Again – New York Times

Armed with a video camera, Mr. Karim documented much of YouTube’s early life, including the meetings when the three discussed financing strategies and the brainstorming sessions in Mr. Hurley’s garage, where the company was hatched.

In his studio apartment in a residence hall for graduate students, he showed one of them, which he said was filmed in April 2005. In it, Mr. Chen talked about “getting pretty depressed” because there were only 50 or 60 videos on the YouTube site. Also, he said, “there’s not that many videos I’d want to watch.” The camera then turns to Mr. Hurley, who grins and says “Videos like these,” referring to the one Mr. Karim is filming.

This anecdote regarding YouTube co-founder Mr. Chen is hilarious. You gotta believe!!!

This story regarding the third co-founder of YouTube shows why Silicon Valley is what it it is. You bring bright people together from around the world, and interesting things start happening.

Lasik plus 6 days

It’s been almost a week now since my Lasik surgery, and my eyes are a little blurry after a bike ride from home to work, but they’re clearing up as I type this. Last night was the last scheduled treatment of Predforte (anti-inflammatory) and Zymar (antibiotics) for my eyes. Now, all I have to do is keep my eyes moist and not rub them for the next six weeks. Overall, I’ve been very happy with the surgery so far. What’s real tough is playing Geometry Wars Evolved on the Xbox 360 at night. My eyes are tired after a day of work and it’s hard to track all the moving objects on the screen, but at that time of day, I should probably be taking a break anyways. I’m in front of a computer screen most of the day, so every day since the surger around 3 PM, I have to take a 15-minute break to let my eyes rest. That was probably something I should have been doing even before the surgery. This morning when I woke up, my eyes didn’t feel dry, so that was a really good sign that the dry eye syndrome will finally go away.

Last night, I still saw halos around lights, but I expect that to decrease over the next few weeks or months. The reason for the halos is the spherical aberration caused by the difference between the treated and untreated part of the cornea. As your pupil dilates, it allows more light in through a wider area of the cornea. This increases the chance that light will be scattered on your retina – especially if the light has to go through the treated and untreated areas of your cornea or lens. Even now, I can still see and drive okay at night, the halos are just an added “feature” of Lasik at the moment.

This is a good diagram showing the reason for Lasik-induced spherical aberration.

Am I evil?

Am I evil if I laughed every 10 minutes while I watched the two episodes of Dateline to Catch a Predator set in Petaluma?

Many of the excuses and comments from the predators were priceless. But this one took the cake:

Officer Barnes: Why did you ask her if she liked anal sex?

Tuari: That was a stupid question. I just—out of curiosity, out of sheer curiosity. I’m a well-respected man in society, detective.

Officer Barnes: Okay.

Tuari: I have a Ph.D. degree in computer engineering.

That Ph.D. in computer engineering might let you get off scott free in the old country, but that ain’t going to happen in the good old U.S.A.!
