Bike commuting in the dark

Posted by on November 3, 2005

Daylight savings time is over, and it’s dark now when I bike home to work. I was ready to go tonight with my NiteRider light out front, and two blinking red lights in the back. One of the red lights is on my seatbag, and the other one is on my backpack. The reason I have two red lights is for increased visibility, and for backup in case one of the lights goes out. I switched the Alex 330 wheels with 35 mm Kenda Kwick tires for Mavic Open Pro rims/Ultegra hubs wheels with 25 mm Michelin Carbon Pro tires on the Bianchi last night, and difference is amazing. The ride is so much smoother and faster, and the rear Ultegra hub doesn’t make that intermittent disturbing crack that the Alex hubs made when the pawls engaged.

I bought some new Mavic 517 rims with XTR hubs wheels for my Sola, and I was thinking of just switching over the cassette on my old wheels, but I might just get a new cassette since the old one is pretty old now.
