Tinker hits the road
With the disintegration of the Siemens/Cannondale professional mountain bike team at the end of 2005, 44-year old American mountain bike legend David “Tinker” Juarez will continue to race under the title sponsor Cannondale USA.“I’ve been riding with them since 1994 and haven’t thought about moving on to somebody else,” Juarez said. “I’ll probably stay with them until I retire.”
That won’t be anytime soon, though. Juarez, a three-time NORBA cross-country champ, two-time Olympian and seven-time national solo 24-hour champion, will focus the brunt of his 2006 season on competing in the solo category at the Race Across America. Juarez, who usually globe-travels in the spring to ultra-endurance mountain bike races across the globe, will instead spend his early season training and resting for the event.
“I have to try and find enough sponsors to help me out for RAAM,” Juarez said. “It’s going to cost a lot, but the more I look into it, the more it seems realistic.”
