Low-tech sets on Star Trek TOS

Posted by on June 14, 2009

I’ve been watching some of the first episodes of Star Trek TOS on Netflix, and it’s amazing to see the difference between the sets of a 60s tv show and the razzle dazzle CGI effects of the present day movie reboot. On TOS (The Original Series) episodes, the viewscreens around the captain’s deck are made of painted paper, and in the Charlie X episode when Charlie throws Kirk and Spock against a wall, Spock puts a huge dent into the drywall. The weirdest thing about the captain’s deck in the movie reboot was the crazy amount of lens flare going on – I was loopy with lens flare by the end of the movie.
