I had major problems with the admin for the Linksys WRT54G Version 8 router at my in-laws’ house yesterday. All I tried to do was press the reset switch so that I could access the admin. This resulted in hours of power cycling, resets, a firmware upgrade, and eventually a non-functional router. I did some research on the WRT54G Version 8 router, and it appears versions 1 through 4 were good, but the versions after that had issues. Fortunately, I replaced the WRT54G with a Belkin F5D7234-4 v1, and setup and access were very easy.
I went to the cellar to check on the equipment for the Verizon FIOS they have here, and there’s a lot of equipment involved vs the Comcast cable modem I have at home. I wonder what the costs are involved of FIOS installation vs Comcast cable modem installation.
