42:26 up Montebello Road

Posted by on June 21, 2007

The weather was perfect for riding up Montebello Road in the early evening on the longest day of the year. I rode my Merlin Works CR 3/2.5, and the 39×25 was a bit too high of a gear for the steepest parts of the climb. Instead of a smooth spin, I was grinding in a low, non-optimal cadence on the steep sections. I hit the school in 18:48, and I thought I might be able to bring it under 42 at the top, but I just didn’t have it tonight. I think I have a chance at breaking 40 minutes later on this year if I ride the Trek with its low gear of 34×25, better fitness, and lower weight.
