Self-Storage Nation

This Slate Article is very poignant considering I occupy one of those smaller homes (1,600 square feet) in the temperate states without any basement or attic. We actually do have an attic, but it’s cramped and hard to access. My wife and I are always trying to figure out where to store stuff, and we were looking at Gorilla Racks for the garage this weekend. I really miss the basements you see in the houses in the Midwest. It’s interesting that some wealthy home owners in this area are building very large basements since they’re easier to get approval for than above the ground additions to a home.

Hot today

It was pretty hot today with temperatures over 90 degrees in Mountain View and over 100 degrees further inland. That’s nothing compared to Iraq at this time of year though where daytime temperatures are 120 degrees and it cools down to 90 degrees at night.

7-11

I dropped by 7-11 at the end of work today and picked up an Odwalla Mango Tango Smoothie. The lady ahead of me purchased a 12-pack of Budweiser Select (yeehaw – quality Bud!) and requested two packs of Marlboro Lights. What a great way to start off the weekend!

Too much Spam

I’m forwarding all the spam that Spamassassin, Clamav, and various rbls catch from our mailserver to a Gmail account in case there’s a false positive. Gmail does a pretty good job out of deciding what items out of the forwarded spam are false positives. If someone suspects there’s a false positive within the forwarded spam, it’s also very easy for someone to log in and do a quick search. The amazing thing to me is how the level of spam keeps growing. Gmail keeps a month’s worth of spam and as of 4:39 PM on July 15th, 2005, we have 64,036 pieces of spam that have been forwarded to the Gmail account which adds up to 2,134 pieces of spam a day!

Jessica Biel is a Guild Wars Ranger

I stayed up till 3 am last watching Blade – Trinity on my iBook (I should have gone to sleep after a bike ride where I was cooked from the hills and the heat), and Jessica Biel reminded me of a Guild Wars ranger with her clothing and bow. I always love watching Wesley Snipes kicking some vampire ass, but this third installment felt weak compared to the first two Blades. That Van Wilder guy was joking way too much, and this “supervampire” villain theme is getting a little bit old.
