Zarqawi wears US trainers and can’t fire gun, says Pentagon – World – Times Online

Maybe Zarqawi needed help firing his gun since it was a SAW – Squad Automatic Weapon which is mainly used by U.S. Forces. This video looks like an audition for the latest installment of Hot Shots. I wonder if he was wearing New Balances since he has wide feet.

Steve Colbert – You Dah Man!

What’s funny is all the debate over whether Steve was funny or not. That’s kind of besides the point. He spoke the truthiness about GW, his administration and the press corps, and they were silenced by his sharp sarcasm. I just couldn’t believe what he was saying right in front of President Bush. What cojones. Interesting enough Justice Scalia thought Colbert was funny since he’s laughing hysterically throughout his monolog. So Antonin’s starting to act a little whacked lately – at least he knows how to have a good laugh.

Wombs for Rent, Cheap – Los Angeles Times

“reproductive tourism”

That’s a new term I’ve never heard before. I can’t imagine trusting the birth of your child to someone else thousands of miles away since how a woman treats her body can really affect the development of a child.

Celebrity Heights – How tall are Celebrities

I came upon this page from a posting in the IMDB forums. The best part of the site is the user comments where people endlessly debate important issues on whether Tom Cruise is 5’7″ or not.

Soda Distributors to End Most School Sales – New York Times

A definite step forward. We don’t buy any fruit juices or soda for us or the kids. It’s better to drink water or eat actual fruit. The whole family loves chocolate though.

Runners World Forums – Nike Hayward

Good to hear that the Nike Haywards I just ordered are the replacement for the Skylon. The Skylon has been a favorite running shoe of mine over the past few years because it’s light and well cushioned. The midsole has the perfect balance between cushion and responsiveness. The motion control on the shoe also fits my needs perfectly.

Electronic Business – Learning from failure – 5/1/2006 – Electronic Business – CA6328378
This article clarifies why there was such a big shortage with Xbox 360s during the holiday season:

Then something unexpected hit. Both Samsung and Infineon Technologies had committed to making the GDDR3 memory for Microsoft. But some of Infineon’s chips fell short of the 700 megahertz specified by Microsoft. Using such chips could have slowed games down noticeably. Microsoft’s engineers consulted and decided to start sorting the chips, not using the subpar ones. Because GDDR3 700-MHz chips were just ramping up, there was no way to get more chips. Each system used eight chips. The shortage constrained the supply of Xbox 360s.

Kaavya Viswanathan – what a train wreck!

What a train wreck!

17-year old co-ed receives $500,000 book advance before entering Harvard. Charges of plagiarism start appearing…
Plagiarism, over-achieving minority culture (tell me about it, I’m 1st-generation Taiwanese), Harvard, Katie Couric, denials, photographic memory, book not being pulled, book being pulled, book packagers, over-priced grooming companies to get your kid into an Ivy… Bwahahahaha – it boggles the mind how many angles this story has. I’ve found the Gawker posts to be among the most entertaining.

MercuryNews.com | 04/20/2006 | Asians surpass mark at UC

MercuryNews.com | 04/20/2006 | Asians surpass mark at UC

Californians of Asian descent won more spots in this fall’s freshman class at the University of California than any other ethnic group, edging out white students for the first time.

The milestone follows a steady climb among Asians in the state’s leading public university system. Asians account for 36 percent of California residents admitted to study at UC schools, though they make up only 14 percent of seniors projected to graduate from the state’s public high schools.

By comparison, white students comprised 35.6 percent of those accepted; Latinos, 17.6 percent; African-Americans, 3.4 percent; and American Indians, 0.6 percent.

I wonder how my kids will be classified since they’re half-white and half-asian. This was inevitable with the heavy emphasis on learning in the large Asian population in California.
