If you’re interested in origin stories, it starts getting interesting for me at 2.0.1 in this book excerpt. I lived down the street from Monta Loma Elementary, the first school Steve Jobs attended, for almost ten years, and my parents still live in the neighborhood. It’s funny how he demanded a move away from Crittenden Middle School (it’s still known as a “rough” school) and how he started attending Cupertino Junior High. Presently, the Cupertino school district has a high percentage of Chinese and Taiwanese residents who have pushed their kids toward the highest test scores in the state. I can imagine real estate agents mentioning that Steve Jobs attended Cupertino Junior High and Homestead High School (where Jobs would meet Wozniak).

My friend,Sean S., led me to Art De Vany’s blog a few years ago. He came out with a book last December. And so Apple today uses its cash to buy parts in huge quantities. Lately this has mainly meant buying flash RAM and iPhone displays in amounts that move whole markets and guarantee Apple the lowest prices anywhere. This is important: in an era where interest rates on idling cash are averaging one percent, Apple is using its cash to get 15-20 percent discounts on parts. That’s exactly like earning a 15-20 percent interest rate.

Uncle Ray – American Patriot
Giving defined greatness of genuine American hero
E and I watched Captain America last weekend, but I had the privilege of meeting a real World Word 2 patriot whenever I would see Jen’s Uncle Ray in Massachusetts. I’ll always remember his warm smile and his strong handshake. Once we got to talking about Once Upon a Time in the West, and he told me he didn’t like it because Henry Fonda played the bad guy. Too bad I didn’t have more conversations with him. Thank you for all you gave to your country and community. R.I.P.
